How to clean sneakers - and keep them white
White sneakers are undoubtedly a must-have in any shoe collection. They are the sneaker that goes with almost everything with a neutral and classic look. That said, this sneaker is not without its challenges. Even if you have only been acquainted with white sneakers for a few days, you will quickly become aware of how dirty they can get. On the white surface of your sneakers, visible dirt and stains can easily be detected if you wear them on a daily basis. It can be walks, work, school or cozy evenings on the beach in the summer.
It's difficult to get your white sneakers completely white again once they've gotten dirty. Below you'll find some effective tips for cleaning and maintaining your sneakers, so you can keep them white for as long as possible.
HOW TO WASH/CLEAN YOUR SNEAKERS
White sneakers are difficult to keep clean if they are used frequently and for outdoor activities. But here are three tips on how to keep your white sneakers in the best possible condition. You can read more about the many benefits of white sneakers from ERRANT by reading more about them on the website.
1. Clean sneakers with wet wipes
The most gentle method to clean your sneakers, and the one we recommend, is to use wet wipes. Wet wipes are both a gentle and easy way to clean your sneakers so that they become white again. You can get wet wipes in most supermarkets for relatively little money, which also makes this solution an easy and cheap way to get your sneakers clean again. The faster you clean the dirt and grime off your sneakers, the greater the likelihood of getting them completely white again.
2. Wash your sneakers clean with soap
If your sneakers are a little dirtier from, for example, a walk in the woods, you can use soap flakes when cleaning your sneakers. All you need is soap flakes, a sponge and tap water. Here we recommend that you mix two liters of water with about 2-3 tablespoons of soap flakes. You can also soak your laces in the water, preferably for a couple of hours. With the sponge, after dipping it in the soapy water, you can scrub the top of your sneakers. You can scrub until your sneakers are clean and white again.
NOTE: Remember that the shoe must not be completely soaked, so do not dip the entire shoe in the soapy water.
For the sole, you can use the rough side of the sponge, so that it also gets clean. When you think your white sneakers are clean again, wipe them with a clean cloth and leave them to dry at normal room temperature. It can take a whole day for them to be completely dry - and longer if you have used a lot of water. Therefore, only use them when they are completely dry again. We also recommend that you have two pairs of sneakers, so that they can dry in turns after use, which also extends their lifespan.
3. Clean your sneakers with special products
In addition to the two methods above, there are many special products that can be used to clean your white sneakers. Some products are specially developed for the purpose, and in many places you can buy a kit with several products. For example, waterproofing spray can be a great solution for your white sneakers.
We do not recommend any specific brands here, but please note that it must be suitable for leather - and be careful with its use. It is at your own risk to clean ERRANT sneakers, as we do not have the opportunity to test all special products on the market.

WHY DO SNEAKERS GET DIRTY/YELLOW?
There is no clear explanation for why sneakers turn yellow. Some believe it is a process that happens over time. Others believe that the technical explanation is sunlight breaking down what creates the white color in sneakers.
For most people, it's a problem that sneakers turn yellow over time, but fortunately there's a solution. It's possible to find special products to prevent discoloration on shoes, which can help with the problem - however, we don't recommend any specific brands for this, and therefore can't vouch for the effectiveness of a product.

CARE/MAINTENANCE OF YOUR WHITE SNEAKERS
It is important to maintain your white sneakers if you want to ensure the longest possible lifespan. It requires regular care to keep white sneakers clean, which also makes them something special. ERRANT sneakers are made of high-quality leather. However, it is important that the leather is allowed to rest once in a while, where it has the opportunity to dry completely. Therefore, it is recommended to have at least two pairs of sneakers, so that you can switch between several pairs, and thus let them dry in turn. This ensures that the leather lasts as long as possible, which also ensures that you enjoy your white sneakers for as long as possible.
CAN SNEAKERS BE WASHED IN A WASHING MACHINE?
Many of us take pride in our sneakers and do our best to maintain their beauty. However, it's important to realize that not all sneakers can withstand a trip to the washing machine. Here are some important reasons why you should avoid throwing your favorite sneakers in the washing machine.
First, many sneakers are made of materials that are not resistant to water and heat, which is often part of the washing machine process. Materials like leather , suede , and certain fabrics can lose color and texture when exposed to water and detergent. This can lead to permanent damage, leaving your sneakers with a discolored and ruined surface.
Furthermore, machine washing can also damage the soles of the shoes. They can become deformed or lose their grip, reducing their functionality and safety.
So what should you do instead of throwing your sneakers in the washing machine? We recommend cleaning them by hand with a soft brush, mild soapy water, and a little patience. This will help remove dirt and stains without damaging the materials or structure of your sneakers. Remember to let them dry naturally and avoid using heating appliances, as heat can worsen the problem.
The next time your sneakers need some loving care, consider a gentle hand wash instead of risking damage in the washing machine. This will help preserve their appearance and longevity.
